In this extract of the story the following happens; the boy and the farther enter the colder regions of America, they find a water fall with fish and mushrooms in that area-the only thing that is currently keeping them alive in the winter.Furthermore, they find a truck with dead bodies in the back and they finally meet a man who was struck by lightning. At the time they meet the farther avoids him and says that they shouldn't help him, showing that the farther hides his emotions and doesn't let them be seen. he acts like a big safe locked up from everyone. the boy on the other hand, is begging his farther for him to help the man, introducing the fact that the boy can't deal fully concealment of his feeling and he lets them out whenever something bad happens or at other moments. The book also finally tells one of the dreams of the boy, and it was a nightmare. Unlike the farther the boy tells the dream to his farther, the writer implying the views from the farther. The farther is also sees a dream where he remembers the sorrowful moment when he leaves his wife to die in the dark, and after waking up he throws away his wallet with her picture inside, creating the image that the farther needs to forget about his past so he is trying to cut all of the strings binding him to it. I will post more another time. ©

To start off, so far in the book the farther and son has managed to travel further down the road and not encounter anyone. The important scenes in this extract are the the points when the farther found a Coca Cola in one of the vending machines. The farther offers it to his son, but his son doesn't know what is Coca Cola. This creates the image that things that are well known world wide today are forgotten and mysterious after the accident in America. Also the writer uses Coca Cola's 1982 slogan, which is 'Coke is it' and the writer uses that by the boy saying 'What is it?'. Another important scene in the extract is the part where the son and the farther experience an earthquake. At that time the boy is very scared so he clings onto his farther. This is probably only the few emotions which are visible throughout the book. This also shows that even though they don't want to show their emotions, so that they don't go crazy , they still hinder fear, emptiness and happiness at critical moments for them. Finally, there is a scene where the farther brings his son to his childhood home. However, the child doesn't want to see, as he is afraid of it. Another surge of emotions happen in the house when the farther opens the door to his bedroom to only find and great big gaping hole instead of his room. This is the point where you can predict that the farther is feeling emptiness as his whole existence and childhood were wiped away from the face of the earth. I predict that when they go further along the road they will encounter some human scavengers who kill and thief of survivors. This is for today's post, more will be on soon. ©

So far the reader was presented with the world of the two characters, in which they are living in. The main characters are a father and his son, and they are survivors of a global disaster. they are heading south towards the coast in hope of salvation and a chance of survival. In the story the man carries around a pistol for protection and that makes me wonder if the world of the book has been completely demolished so that the people of the world have turned into such savages, and are untrustworthy as they try to survive in the aftermath of the destruction. This also leads onto the fact that the whole text of the book has been stripped of emotion and description as the land in the book. Everything is scorched so the characters don't show any emotions at all , even when they pass through many corpses because I think that they might go insane and crazy if they start thinking about such small things. I predict that later on in the book the duo might meet somebody who they give shelter, but he runs off with their food and equipment. Also I think that the dreams that the man is experiencing might drive him to insanity because on page 10 paragraph 2 there is the description of how the man acted after seeing the dreams and his memories. Finally, the writer uses the fact that the characters are anonymous and are simply a silhouette. Also there is no names and there is no descriptions of the face creating a mythic feeling.  This is it for today's update, but i'll post more later on. ©
